Rotary Club of Aabahamaan Kolkata has a fighting history of coming into existence. Three Rotarians of another Club, residing in Salt Lake, were deeply interested in taking up sustainable projects for creating a legacy and leaving footprints on the Rotary focus areas of service, and making permanent development of the community in targeted areas. With this dream in their eyes, they set out to contact persons of good background in different fields for their induction in order to create a new Rotary Club. Gradually four Rotarians and other non-Rotarians joined us to make a membership strength of 20, the number required for Chartering a new Rotary Club. Thus our Rotary Club of Aabahamaan Kolkata came into existence. The name is significant as Aabahamaan signifies continuation and sustainability. As we believe in sustainable projects as encouraged by Rotary, we appropriately chose the name of our Club.
We formally applied to the then DG (2020-21), RID 3291, Rtn Sudip Mukherjee, in October 2020, for Chartering of our Rotary Club, and finally, Rotary Club of Aabahamaan Kolkata was Chartered on 29th January 2021 by the then RI President (2020-21) Rtn Holger Knaack.
However, the Charter Presentation Ceremony was held on 6th March 2021 at Rabindra Okakura Bhawan at Salt Lake, Kolkata. The Charter was presented by DG Rtn Sudip Mukherjee to our President Rtn Jnanendra Nath Ghosh and other Charter Members including Charter Secretary Rtn Bibek Kundu and Charter Treasurer Rtn Rajat Maitra (since deceased). The Oath of Secrecy was delivered by Rtn Ajoy Kumar Law, DGE 2022-23. Many District Rotary Dignitaries and other Club Officials were present at the event to add grandeur to the historic event.
Since Charter, our Rotary Club has been engaging in Projects relating to Vocational Training of Women, Women Empowerment, Health Camps, Cancer Awareness Seminar, Cervical Cancer Awareness Camp, Treatment of Pediatric Cancer patients, Eye check-up camps, providing Spectacles free of cost and follow up Cataract Operation, providing Winter Garments to underprivileged people, Environment protection mainly in remote areas of rural West Bengal. In future we plan to take up more ambitious projects in collaboration with other Rotary Clubs, Various organizations of repute, Corporates and Rotary District and Rotary International Grants.
Our Rotary Club has a Rotaract Club namely Rotaract Club of Aabahamaan Kolkata and an interact Club with the students of Krishnachandrapur High school, 24 Paraganas( South )
